Salt Shakers: Dispatches From the BUB Bonneville Speed Trials, August 27, 2010

Racers and spectators have already started showing up for the BUB Speed Trials, which get underway August 28. Fortunately the pit area is finished, but it’s always best to check to make sure the outhouses are stocked with TP before you make your move.

LSR record-holder Leslie Porterfield, who also holds the title of World’s Fastest Woman, is scheduled to race this year. ESPN is expected to feature coverage of her 2010 effort. She set a new class record during the Bonneville Nationals earlier this month, and now she hopes to go even faster at the BUB Speed Trials.

“Radio Free BUB begins broadcasting Sunday morning,” Manning reminds us.  The broadcast radio is a great way to keep up with what’s happening on the racecourse. Go to 89.7 on your FM dial. Broadcasting is restricted pretty much to the Salt Flats. “Once your wheels hit the salt, tune in!” says Denis Manning.

“There’s really not much more to report. We have 11 miles of racecourse that’s ready. So far, there’s been no rain, and there’s none in the forecast.” —Dain Gingerelli
